Circa Survive concert

The lights dim, the crowd goes crazy, and from the back of the dimly lit Amos' Southend stage comes!.........aw, it's fucking Pelican. I might as well be honest. The opening band for Circa Survive sucked ass. An instrumental quartet that consisted of slow guitar riffs, slow drumming, and a shitload of headbanging. When they first came out, I didn't mind it so much. But as time wore on, my ears could not handle this shit. I told Virginia I was going to look for some water, then went into the bathroom and holed myself up in the handicap stall for a solid five minutes with my fingers in my ears. I seriously felt like I was going to go deaf. I think another guy in the bathroom felt the same way ("Hey man, I think my ears are bleeding!").

That band got out of the way, the equipment was switched, and then it was finally time for Circa Survive. The lights once again dimmed, but this time there was a new energy in the air. The guitar and bass player took their respective places on the stage and began to play some hardcore riffs. Still no sign of Anthony Green, or the drummer for that matter. Green finally came out and showed off those high vocals, going a capella for a bit. The drummer finally came out, and they were off into "Living Together," which happens to be my favorite track.

The feeling I got when I saw Green spinning and singing with that femininely high voice that I have come to love felt nearly sexual. Sure enough, I looked down to find Mr. Happy poking his head up approvingly at the dank-ass tunes. So much emotion, and yet so natural. I wish I had the balls to be a lead singer in a band like that. Or the pipes.

Most of the songs were off Juturna. There were maybe one or two that I didn't know. I won't pretend like I am a die-hard Circa Survive fan, but I have been listening to them off and on for over a year, and this concert makes me want to go on an illegal-downloading frenzy (it's all with good intentions, I love da music CS!). At the very least, a T-shirt is in order. The kiosk at Amos' sold some really sweet shirts and they were only $15, a moderate price, especially for a concert venue. And I swear the guy selling the shirts could have been Anthony Green's brother. Probably was. Definitely irrelevant.

Regardless, it was a good show. I just wish Circa Survive had played a little longer. Only six songs. Thrice was the headlining band I suppose. But Virginia and I bounced before that group came out. I am not a huge fan. Maybe I should have given them a chance. But I came to see one band and one band only, and once said band was outta there, I thought it was only right for me to follow suit.

Oh by the way, I was wearing a Minus the Bear shirt, and so was the lead guitarist in Pelican. gaga.
